MATE · Muslim Matrimonial Community & Events

Effective August 1, 2026 · Last updated August 1, 2026

1. Who we are

Mate Matrimony LLC is a marriage introduction service and community organisation based in Hutto, Texas. We host live, in person events for Muslim families across the United States and Canada, and we operate a members app that supports those events. Membership exists for marriage only, and there is no chat inside the app. Mate Matrimony LLC is the controller of the information described here.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account. Name, email address, phone number, and either a password or the sign in provider you choose (Apple, Google).
  • Profile. Display name, age and date of birth, gender, height, city, state or province and country, education, profession, marital status, whether you want children, and your written answers about marriage, family, conflict, finances and values.
  • Religious information. Religious affiliation, level of religious practice, whether you pray five times daily, whether you wear hijab, dietary preference, and whether you drink alcohol or smoke.
  • Immigration and legal status. Your legal status in the country where you live.
  • Photographs. The photographs you add to your profile.
  • Wali or guardian. The name and contact details of the wali or guardian you list.
  • Identity documents. Your government issued ID and a photograph of your face. See section 3.
  • Support and events. Messages you send our team, and details relating to tickets and attendance.

Sensitive information, named plainly

Some of what we ask for is treated as sensitive personal information under laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act and the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act. For Mate that means your religious beliefs and practice, your immigration or legal status, your precise location, and the biometric information used to verify your identity.

We collect these because a marriage introduction service cannot function without them: a member's religious practice is central to compatibility, and identity verification is what keeps the community safe. We use them only for the purposes in section 5. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for any purpose other than those permitted by law, and we do not sell it.

Information we collect automatically

  • Approximate and precise location. Your city and, if you allow it, your device's latitude and longitude, used to show members near you and sort by distance.
  • Device and app information. Device model, operating system version, app version, language, and a device identifier used for push notifications.
  • Usage and diagnostics. Which screens you open, which profiles you view, crash reports and error diagnostics.
  • Event attendance. Whether you registered, whether you were checked in at the door, and which table or round you were seated at.

Information from others

  • Identity verification results from our verification provider, including whether the check passed and details read from your ID.
  • Background check reports, described in section 4.
  • Subscription status from Apple and our subscription provider. We never receive your card number.
  • Reports about you from other members, if someone reports or blocks you.

3. Biometric information and identity verification

To join Mate you must complete an identity check, carried out by Didit, our verification provider. You photograph a government issued ID and take a live photograph of your face. Didit compares the two and performs a liveness check to confirm a real person is present.

Your consent, and what happens to your face data

The liveness and face comparison step involves biometric identifiers, including a scan of your facial geometry. We tell you this before the check begins and we ask for your written consent. You are not required to consent, but we cannot admit you to Mate without a completed identity check, because unverified members are the single largest safety risk to everyone else.

  • Purpose. Solely to confirm you are who you say you are, that your ID is genuine, and that you meet our minimum age.
  • Retention. Biometric identifiers are retained only as long as needed to complete verification, and are destroyed no later than one year after verification completes or your account closes, whichever is sooner.
  • Disclosure. We do not sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from biometric information, and we do not disclose it except to Didit to perform the check, or where the law requires it.
  • Withdrawal. You may withdraw consent by writing to support@matematrimony.com. Withdrawal ends your membership, because verification is a condition of it.

If you are a resident of Illinois (Biometric Information Privacy Act), Texas (Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act), Washington or another state with a specific biometric privacy law, this section together with the consent you give in the app is intended to satisfy the notice, consent and retention schedule those laws require.

We keep the outcome of the check and the limited details read from your ID, such as your name, date of birth and gender, so that we do not have to ask you to verify again.

4. Background checks

Mate may obtain a background check on applicants and members. Where we do, the report is stored securely and access by our staff is logged.

  • We will tell you clearly, in a standalone disclosure, before any background check is obtained, and we will ask for your written authorisation.
  • We use background checks only to decide whether to admit or retain someone as a member, and to protect the safety of other members.
  • If we decide not to admit you, or to end your membership, wholly or partly because of something in a background check, we will tell you, give you a copy of the report and a statement of your rights, and give you an opportunity to dispute its accuracy before the decision is final.
  • Background check reports are never shown to other members.

Mate is not a consumer reporting agency. Background reports are obtained and used solely for our own member verification, safety, eligibility and fraud prevention. They are not shown to other members, and neither we nor anyone else may use information obtained through Mate for any purpose governed by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act or comparable law, including any decision about employment, credit, insurance, housing or tenancy, or eligibility for a licence or benefit.

Where a background check is obtained from a consumer reporting agency, it is subject to the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act and to equivalent state law, and you have rights under those laws including the right to a free copy of your report and the right to dispute inaccurate information.

5. How we use your information

  • To verify who you are and decide whether to admit you as a member.
  • To operate your membership, including your profile, connection requests, and your saved profiles and notes.
  • To show you relevant members, using your preferences and location.
  • To run our events, including tickets, check in at the door, printed name tags, seating and the roster of who is in the room.
  • To keep the community safe, including reviewing photographs, investigating reports, and removing members who break our rules.
  • To take payment for membership and tickets.
  • To contact you about your account, your verification, and events you have registered for, and, if you have not opted out, news about Mate.
  • To improve the service and diagnose faults.
  • To meet legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

We do not use your information to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you. A person on our staff reviews and approves every membership.

6. Who we share it with

We share information with the service providers below, who act on our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes. We are not paid by any of them for your information.

  • Didit — your ID document, face photograph and biometric verification data, to perform the identity check.
  • Amazon Web Services — hosting, databases and photograph storage. Photographs are also screened automatically for inappropriate content.
  • Google Firebase — sign in and authentication, and push notifications.
  • RevenueCat — subscription status and purchase validation.
  • Apple — payment processing for in app purchases. Apple, not Mate, handles your card details.
  • Sentry — crash reports and error diagnostics.
  • Expo — app delivery and push notification routing.
  • Google Maps — displaying locations and distances.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to respond to lawful requests from public authorities, to enforce our Terms of Use, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Mate, our members or the public. If Mate is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, we will give you notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

7. What other members can see

Your profile is visible to other approved members, including your photographs, first name, age, city, and the profile details and written answers you provide.

  • Your surname is abbreviated to an initial for other members.
  • Your phone number and email are never shown to another member unless you both accept a connection. Only then are contact details shared.
  • Your wali or guardian's details are never shown to other members.
  • Your identity documents, biometric data and background check are never shown to other members.
  • Other members can see that you viewed their profile.
  • At an event, attendees can see the roster of who else is in the room, and your first name and city appear on your name tag.

8. What we never do

  • We do not sell your personal information, and we have not sold or shared it for cross context behavioural advertising in the preceding twelve months.
  • We do not sell, lease or trade biometric information under any circumstances.
  • We do not show advertising inside the app.
  • We do not read your conversations, because there are none. Mate has no chat feature.

9. How long we keep it

  • Account and profile — while your membership is active, then up to 90 days after you delete your account.
  • Biometric identifiers — until verification completes, and destroyed no later than one year after completion or account closure, whichever is sooner.
  • ID verification outcome — up to 5 years after account closure, to show we met our verification obligations.
  • Background check reports — up to 3 years after the decision, then destroyed securely.
  • Payment and ticket records — 7 years, as tax and accounting law requires.
  • Safety records — reports, blocks and removals may be kept indefinitely to stop a removed member rejoining.
  • Diagnostics — up to 90 days.

10. How we protect it

  • Information is encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Photographs and documents are stored privately and served through short lived links, never public URLs.
  • Staff access is limited to those who need it, and access to background check reports is individually logged.
  • Sensitive credentials are held in a managed secrets store, never in our code.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

11. Your rights and choices

Wherever you live, you may ask us to:

  • Know what information we hold about you and get a copy of it.
  • Correct anything inaccurate.
  • Delete your account and information. You can do this yourself in the app under Profile, Settings, Delete Account.
  • Take your information elsewhere in a portable format.
  • Limit how we use sensitive personal information to what is necessary to provide the service.
  • Opt out of marketing email using the unsubscribe link in any such message. We will still send essential messages about your account.
  • Withdraw consent to biometric processing, which ends your membership.

To exercise any of these, email support@matematrimony.com. We will verify your identity before acting, and we will respond within 45 days, or tell you if we need longer. Using these rights costs nothing and we will never treat you differently for it. If we refuse a request you may appeal by replying to our decision, and we will respond to an appeal within 60 days.

12. State and regional disclosures

California

In the last twelve months we collected the categories in section 2, including identifiers, personal records, protected classification characteristics, commercial information, internet activity, precise geolocation, biometric information, sensory data (photographs) and inferences. We collected them from you, from your device, and from the providers named in section 6, for the purposes in section 5, and disclosed them for a business purpose to those same providers. We did not sell or share personal information for cross context behavioural advertising. California residents have the rights in section 11, including the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and the right not to face discrimination for exercising them. You may use an authorised agent.

Texas

Mate Matrimony LLC is based in Texas. Texas residents have the rights in section 11 under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act. We do not sell personal data, and we do not process personal data for targeted advertising or for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. Biometric identifiers are handled as described in section 3.

Other US states

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Oregon and Montana, and others as they take effect, have equivalent rights. Use the contact in section 11.

Canada

For members in Canada we handle personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. You may ask for access to your information and challenge its accuracy, and you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Information about Canadian members is stored in the United States and is subject to lawful access requests there.

Where your information is held

We store and process information in the United States. If you use Mate from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed there.

13. Children

Mate is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We verify age from a government issued ID during verification. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and if we learn that we have, we delete it and close the account.

14. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and we will update the date at the top. Continuing to use Mate after a change means you accept the updated policy. Where the law requires fresh consent, for example for a new use of biometric information, we will ask for it rather than assume it.
